Creating the perfect Base
Once you have completed the correct procedure to cleanse the skin, you need to consult with the client to see what skin type they have. This may be oily, dry and combination skin. There are correct products to use for each skin type which help to combat any signs of the problem. Once again check for any problems with the skin, allergies and contact lenses.
- Cleanliness is important in applying the base makeup as you don't want to contaminate the clients skin. To avoid this, wash your hands and make sure that your brushes are completely clean. Ensure that the station is properly set up with towel over the surface and a cape over the client to avoid spillages. Cleanse, tone and moisturise the face and exfoliate if need be.
- Prime the face with either a satin or matte primer, depending on what finish you desire for the skin. A satin primer gives a glow, and the matte primer makes a matte finish. If you want to achieve that no makeup look, then just apply the product to the t-zone.
- Next, take the foundation and with a stick, pull some product onto the back of your hand and place onto the lower cheek to see if the colour matches the natural skin tone. If it does it should disappear so that you cant see the difference between the product against the skin tone. If you can see the product, you will need to mix some foundations together in order to create the perfect colour. Apply the foundation starting at the nose. Pull the product out onto the cheeks and buff into the skin to avoid a build up of product and uneven colouring. Remember to apply product to the ears and neck.If you haven't put a cape around the client, protecting their clothes, then tuck some couch roll into the clothing. If the client is a man, it is probably best to use a tinted moisturiser which isn't so heavy or thick on the skin.
- The next thing you need to do is conceal those imperfections! ALWAYS conceal on top of the base as this makes the concealer go on easier. Apply the concealer using both brushes and sponges. In terms of colouring, make the concealer 1 shade brighter then the base to illuminate the skin. You can get concealers in many shades, here is how to use the unusual colours:
Pink tones of concealer - Hide dark eyes
Peachy tones of concealer - Gets rid of brown hues
Green - Reduces redness
Use a green concealer around the nose and mouth and around the eye to reduce redness and impurities. Take the concealer all the way up to the lashes ensuring that the whole face is made up, including the neck and ears.
A tip for applying makeup:
Grease products - When applying grease products, make sure you use all the grease products together and then move onto the powder products. This will create a better finish.
Powder products - Powder the face first and then apply the colouring to the cheeks. Powder takes away the shine on the skin and also sets the makeup.
